I already have 2 exercise balls and a chair with wheels in my classroom and it gives my students a sense of relaxation and they feel more at ease and willing to learn.
This room needs to be "ours" instead of "mine". Flexible seating will give my students a sense of ownership and enabled them to become invested in their own education.
Having multiple types of chairs, cushions and desks in my classroom will allow all my different types of learners to feel comfortable and be ready to learn in a setting that fits them.
Perks of flexible seating:
Traditional desk seating isolates students, where flexible seating allows them pair up and collaborate with ease.
When students are uncomfortable they find it hard to concentrate, flexible seating allows students to find comfortable positions through out the classroom.
Many flexible seating options stimulate sense of touch. This type of stimulation can help students focus and process information.
