Nowadays, it's becoming harder and harder to complete anything without some form of technology. For some reason, schools seem to be the last place to upgrade their technology but they are the first place students learn a multitude of different topics and ideas.
I am looking to add two Chromebooks to our classroom so that students can have the opportunity to experience higher thinking questions tailored to their individual learning needs. This would increase student learning and motivation to learn. If students are given worksheets for independent work, their attention can only be held for so long. Worksheets cannot be easily adopted to differentiate individual learning skills but computers and Google Classroom can do this. Our reading and math rotations include a technology center. Right now, students work on two ancient desktops that take approximately five minutes to log students on. That's just to log in! By the time the students locate Google Classroom and log in to that, I have already lost 10 minutes of instructional time (and rotations are 20 minutes long!). A Chromebook turns on and logs students in seven SECONDS! Students will be able to spend most of the rotation learning on the computers and feel special because they're learning on a computer with topics and standards that are specific to their learning style and needs!
