The students in my classroom are amazing. The demographics of my school has a poverty rate of greater than 90%. The shocking ramifications of living in poverty can be seen each and every day in not only my classroom but all the classrooms in our building. However, you would never know this by stepping foot in our room and talking to our babies. They are excited about learning, love their friends and teachers, and can't wait to come to school each day despite the fact that the night before they may have had little or nothing to eat and are taking care of their younger brothers and sisters while mom or dad work night shifts just to make ends meet. The love for learning and the zest for life that my kids have is contagious.
