Although my students are all very different, they come together incredibly well to balance out each others' strengths and weaknesses. When they work together, they combine their interests in art, music, athletics, science and math to help one another understand new perspectives. To show just how passionate my students are about working together, I'll share a quick story: Before my students arrived on a standardized testing day, I rearranged their desks from groups to rows. When my students entered the classroom and saw the rows of desks instead of groups of desks, their faces sank. "Ms. Sarnoff!" they said, "Why can't we work together today? Are we in trouble?!" To see my students' reactions, you would think I ruined their entire day! I explained to them that, no, they weren't in trouble, and assured them that as soon as the test was over, they could put their desks back into groups. My kids love sharing ideas, and, I think they'd tell you that they learn best when they work together!
