"Of the 15 Major Study categories, engineering has the highest median earnings, yet less than 20% of students choose a STEM path." This is a fascinating statistic for me. Why are students not choosing the STEM path? Well, it is because they know nothing about it; they have not been exposed to it. This year, I have two STEM classes and two STEM clubs to expose students. We are learning to read and write code so that we can speak to computers as well as we use the Engineering Design Process to solve problems. We will be going to STEM workshops and competitions where the students will be able to learn about what is out there for them in terms of careers, and they can start understanding the importance of doing well in school. My goal is to plant a seed in my students brains that will grow into a STEM for their future. I don't just want to teach my students; I want to teach them so that they think about their futures.
