More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education.
The books purchased will be used to specifically engage my students in independent reading. I want my students to get excited about reading and to figure out what they like and don't like when it comes to a text. I want them to be able to quit a book and choose another one that interests them. I want my students to understand that are lots of books out that they can connect with and they have the power to choose. But I need lots of current, exciting books for my students to interact with.
I want a variety of engaging, relevant texts that students can CHOOSE from and figure out what they enjoy and don't enjoy when it comes to reading. I ultimately want to create lifelong readers who don't see reading as a chore, but as a pleasure.
