As a school psychologist I work with any student who may be experiencing crisis, needs a listening ear, or needs ongoing counseling support at school. I teach coping strategies for things like anxiety, depression, and anger. I ensure that my students' basic needs (e.g., hunger, thirst, and sleep) are met when I assess their needs. I provide snacks, water, and a calm space for decompressing or resting as needed before working through big feelings. Once my students are relaxed we work on different activities that promote healthy coping strategies. For some students, those coping activities include arts and crafts, talking, journaling, playing a game, taking a walk, practicing mindfulness and grounding techniques, reading books on emotional regulation, or working on executive functioning skills for academic success. Snacks, cleaning supplies, games, books, and arts and crafts supplies are always appreciated!
