The number one way to engage students in STEM and the sciences is to provide hands-on real life experience to ALL students. I plan to create an Outdoor Learning Area to provide our Jackson scientists with endless opportunities to engage in these experiences.
Jackson's Outdoor Learning area will provide our Jackson scientists a place to explore, research, and immerse themselves in the sciences, and will consist of three parts: a 200 square yard area of fenced in Nature Preserve filled with local plants, raised garden beds for experimental plant growing, and an outdoor classroom area.
Once this outdoor learning area is up and running, I plan to lead all science students in a project-based learning experience, with the end product being a completed science research project. This project-based experience will help our scientists master the concept of the scientific method, think creatively and critically, and introduce them to the fields of ecology, biology, botany, and many more.
By supporting this project, you will be helping provide fencing, vegetation, storage benches, and a raised garden bed to get this space up and running. You would be directly helping to provide our amazing young scientists with immersive, engaging, and challenging science learning experiences during their time at Jackson. This will not only benefit science students, as this area provides an outdoor area for all subjects to use to provide lessons in an outdoor environment. Our goal at Jackson is to provide the very best education possible for all of our students, and this will help us to do that!
