One learning style does not meet the needs of all students. Similarly, one type of seating also does not meet the needs of all students either. Many of our students have energy to burn and find it difficult to sit still in class in a traditional seat.
The seats that I am requesting allow the students to transfer excess energy in the form of wiggling and squirming, Research has shown that this allows for those students that need to move to better learn and focus.
I'd like to implement a flexible seating strategy in our class by using the bean bag and active chairs as seating options in our class. The active seats lets the student wiggle on the seat during instruction. The bean bag chairs will allow the students to choose a more comfortable seating option to choose from when working independently on assignments. This allows the students to learn on their terms. They fidget frequently in class now and I know this would be a great outlet for their energy.
