If these children could tell you stories of their lives, they would amaze, humble, and awe you.
I teach Spanish as a World Language in a high school on the south-side of Chicago. The school is surrounded by gang violence, dangerous commutes to and from school, and families that cannot always support their students in the way they would like.
The student body is 99 percent African-American with a vast majority of children coming from families of low socio-economic status. The students live and even thrive as they push against the odds and statistics stacked against them.
