As part of a multicultural community such as Queens, New York our students are exposed everyday to very different foods and customs from around the world. My goal is to expand on their previous knowledge of Spanish and Hispanic culture in the classroom. I plan to show students color pictures or diagrams, recipes, costumes, festivals and more. By printing in color and laminating the images this allows for students to use the images multiple times.
In order to encourage students and give them access to custom made resources that will be used in the classroom to promote student engagement and hands on interaction.
As an interactive activity in small groups, students will need to interpret information given to them about one landmark in Latin America. There will be multiple images, in color and laminated displayed in the classroom. Each group will be given a different description of a landmark. With their group members, students will interpret the information and decide which printed image is the one they are reading about.
