I teach a Functional Skills Classroom of 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th graders. My students vary in ability level, but all have moderate to severe cognitive impairments and a few struggle with physical disabilities as well. These exceptional students are resilient, kindhearted happy learners! They require a lot of hands on/interactive work and tons of repetition in order to retain new skills. Because of my students lower level of independence, it is often a challenge to keep them all engaged in meaningful learning activities at the same time. Technology is the perfect way to increase independence while providing hands on practice in engaging ways. These amazing children deserve every opportunity to learn and grow towards independence and I hope to be able to provide them with that experience!
