My students are the hardest working individuals that I have encountered in both my personal and professional life. No matter what challenging path I set them on, they tackle it with more determination and fortitude that an educator can dream of. As these are AVID classes, there is an exorbitant about of collaboration that occurs on a regular basis. Let's take their AVID Benchmark Assessment for an example. Their test was to create a game with 3 other team members. The only materials that they could use were:
5 pennies
5 cotton balls
1 Pen or Pencil
Paper
Although they immensely enjoyed the experience and it was SO much fun for me to watch as their teacher, my students were in the driver's seat and they all turned into expert level "NASCAR" drivers. They were asking each other questions, testing theories and exploring options... ALL of the things that you read about in blogs and articles. Such a JOY to witness!!!
