The materials I have asked for in addition to odds and ends I already have in the classroom will provide STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) bins for my students. These bins will be used in the mornings to jumpstart their learning, as well as throughout the day for early finishers.
Having access to materials that will encourage higher thinking will be invaluable to these students. There are so many different learning styles, and I am really excited to provide hands-on activities to reach even the most reluctant learners! Additionally, many of the activities will provide collaborative opportunities, which will lend itself to our school's focus on Social Emotional Learning.
Some of the STEAM bins I have planned for these materials:
-Build a shelter with magnetic tiles
-Build your name with building blocks
- Recreate various 3D shapes with Play-Doh
- Create a model of your favorite animal out of WikkiStix
- Roll-a-number-sentence
