My students have heart and tenacity. They have grown this way in our remote, rural, and economically struggling community. They work together in a way that is far beyond the caricature of the self-absorbed teen--with respect, acceptance, and perseverance.
Being that many of them have limited experience outside of our region, I work to expand their understanding of the world in the variety of classes I teach (English, French, Debate, and College and Life Prep). Due to distance and financial limitations, our activities often involve bringing the world to us, rather than going out into the world. We need to stay current in the ever-changing global community so that they and our region do not fall to the wayside.
