Art historian Ananda Coomaraswamy once said "The artist was not a special kind of man, but every man a special kind of artist." Through a variety of projects and materials I try to show my students that they are all artists. Some of them are not confident drawers, but they may excel at sculpture. Some of them dislike painting, but they may be exceptional photographers.
My ultimate goal as an art teacher is to create an environment where these individuals feel comfortable expressing themselves and experimenting with different types of art.
With something as simple as glue, we can create a variety of objects, with papier-mâché, build structures, make collages, etc. With liquid watercolors we can learn a variety of painting techniques. With Twisteez sculpture wire we can create anything our imaginations come up with.
These items will help me engage hundreds of young artists with a variety of projects that embrace diverse strengths and abilities.
