Art is important. It gives students a way to come up with new possibilities and create things with their hands that are highly personalized. Ideas learned in art and it's processes span every academic subject in some way and help students become more independent thinkers. Not only that, but students enjoy it. How many student still have the history paper they wrote in 8th grade about the Industrial Revolution when they finish their high school years? Now how many have that clay coil vase they made in the same year? People treasure items that are made in their art classes and they are proud of what they create. I bet you are thinking fondly of a project you did in an art class right now.
