My students come from a variety of ethnic backgrounds, but over 60% of the students in my class are Native Hawaiians. The demographics of my school are 60% Filipino, 12% Samoan, 11% Hawaiian, and 17% other. The Filipino and Samoan cultures are very visible in the school, especially in extracurricular activities, but the Hawaiian culture is not as visible, even though we live in Hawaii.
Our school is full of spirit and pride, and all students do get along. We have a very strong athletic and extracurricular program; however, my students have shared with me that they would like to do more activities that exhibit the Hawaiian culture.
