My students are an excited group of young learners with a variety of disabilities which impact their learning and success in the classroom and community. The confounding factors of coming from low income homes, devoid of needed exposure to literacy, and struggling to learn at the same rate as their peers creates an uphill battle for my students to achieve academic success. They come to school excited to try every day, persevering despite experiencing failure. One of their most sought after 'rewards' for appropriate behavior is the opportunity to have a story read aloud to them by a teacher. Their imaginations are running wild and their eagerness for learning is insatiable.
