In the public schools, Speech and Language Pathologists work with students from articulation (speech sound productions), language (understanding and using words), fluency (stuttering), and voice. We also work on social pragmatic language skills. At our middle school, we have a Communication Handicap Classroom. Students range from difficulty with eye contact, talking off topic, poor body language, connecting with peers, and/or appropriate and inappropriate topics given the situation. Some students are on the spectrum and or have significant language development delays. They overall have a difficult time with Social language skills.
