I have the honor of teaching 34 fabulous 5th graders. They are a fun group of kids with a curiosity for the world around them. My 5th graders are naturally social and very active. I have a goal of ditching the traditional classroom for a more flexible learning environment to meet the needs of my students.
Our school is 73% English Language Learners and 92% of the students qualify for the free or reduced-price lunch program. For many of my students, sitting in a traditional classroom chair for several hours is stressful. The need to fidget is so distracting, they are unable to concentrate on learning. Providing flexible seating will provide my more active students the freedom to fidget and wiggle without getting distracted, allowing them to focus on their learning.
Happy students = successful scholars!
