I teach a very diverse group of 2nd graders in a Title 1 school. They are all eager to learn and need that daily reminder from our staff and volunteers that they are capable of being successful. Many come from backgrounds where parental support isn't as present as it should be, and they rely on myself and others to validate them in their endeavors. Most come to school without the necessary background knowledge, skills, or materials to perform in the classroom.
Our classroom is an extremely inviting atmosphere where all ideas are welcome, and students feel safe. We use cooperative learning groups, small reading workshop and math workshop stations, and peer tutoring. You've never seen a group of harder workers!
