My 7th and 8th grade students are a diverse group of learners who bring many different voices, backgrounds, and experiences into our classroom. Their diversity makes our discussions richer and helps us see history and literature through multiple perspectives. They are curious, thoughtful, and eager to connect what they read in English Language Arts and what they study in Social Studies to the world around them.
In class, they practice strategies like read‑alouds, stop‑and‑jots, and annotation to strengthen their comprehension and critical thinking. What makes them special is their openness to exploring identity, loyalty, and civic responsibility, and their willingness to wrestle with complex ideas that remain relevant today.
