The resources that I am requesting are the 15 books chosen for the 2017-2018 Sunshine State Young Readers Award. They have been selected by the Florida Association for Media in Education because of their wide appeal, literary value, varied genres, curriculum connections and multicultural representation. In addition, I have also requested the 2nd and 3rd books in the series of some of the SSYRA books. The past has shown me that once students have read the first, they want to keep reading if there are more books in a series available!
These books will continue to foster the love of reading that my students already possess. As my students are getting older, it is critical that they still have that innate desire to get lost in the plot of a well-told story. The books will help the students build relationships with peers as they read with friends and build understanding as they read a variety of text.
