We are so lucky to be a one-to-one device school! The ability for every student to have a computer is such an incredible resource. My culturally diverse students thrive when they are able to access texts from all around the world. Unfortunately, many of my students cannot afford to get the other necessary materials for learning. I have already purchased pencils, paper, notebooks, and other things for my students but I just am not able to afford headphones!
Headphones give me the opportunity to teach each student, no matter their first language or academic level. Every day, I put together an individualized checklist for each of my students. Most of the work requires them to working with partners, in groups, or with a teacher. However, there are some fantastic online resources that students can do independently. The most effective resources require a visual, auditory, and even tactile component. It is so challenging for my students to hear and process the information while the rest of us are collaborating.
Also, most of my students are bilingual. It is important to me that even though I am not able to speak their first languages, that they get to practice those languages at school. Without headphones, this is practically impossible. With headphones...I can't wait to see what is possible!
