The 6th grade students at our middle school in southern Maine are movers and shakers! Every day I am inspired by their curiosity, love for books, and creative ideas.
My students come from diverse backgrounds. Many come from families who have lived in Maine for many generations; many are new to our town and have come from countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Some students are excelling in all academic areas; others struggle to read at grade level. Some students are involved in many interesting after school activities; others have a hard time finding their niche. Several of our learners speak English as a 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th language. 52.8% of our students receive free or reduced lunch.
With all their unique characteristics and energetic passion, I am positive that ALL of my students can make a positive difference in our world!
