Having a listening center in the classroom, will improve student vocabulary, phonics and imagination. When books are read to on tape, they are done with sound effects, characters' voices and dramatic readings. The students will be engaged in what they are hearing and reading together. When students are engaged in their learning, they expand their knowledge of the vocabulary that these stories will bring.
Teaching students to love and enjoy literature, in all forms, will help them become lifelong learners. This listening center will be used daily, the stories we have in our classroom range from fiction to non-fiction, and they will correlate with our ELA units.
