All of my students desire to learn but learning at home can be difficult. Add pets, siblings, and everyday life to the mix and you've got a recipe for distraction. Having headphones and hands-on manipulatives can help minimize student distractions while learning at home.
I teach in a Title One school and many of my students qualify for free or reduced price lunch. This divide has already caused insurmountable gaps. Due to the nationwide shutdown in March, I've noticed that my first graders are facing a massive learning gap. I'm working hard to bring excitement and interest into our class to close the gap, but I need help accessing more digital and hands-on materials while students are in distance learning.
Using magnetic letters will help build students' phonological awareness skills. Having a stylus for their iPads will allow them to continue strengthening their fine motor skills and foster correct grip and letter formation. Headphones will improve my students' focus, regardless of where they are learning. Having these items and access to digital resources will help to close the learning gap.
