This year I purchased a 3D printer for my home. I was astounded at what could be printed and began to research the academic applications for 3D printing. What I found was a wealth of free resources to help my students print the materials they need to make outstanding projects for their classes. I was also astounded by the shallow learning curve of 3D printing and how my students will be able to print their own items with little help from me.
To get kids to WANT to learn....you have to get them to WANT to come to school. When I took a poll amongst my students concerning how many of them would be more excited about doing their projects if they had access to a 3D printer, it was pure excitement and a unanimous raise of hands.
I truly think that it would not only be great for the kids, but for the reputation of the school to have a 3D printer for student use.
