Our district's hybrid schedule this Fall means I must support my 45+ gifted readers in grades 3-8 remotely. Students will need headphones with microphones in order to equitably access virtual classes with other gifted learners throughout the district. The selection of headphones with built-in microphones and collapsable earpieces mean that students will have an easy-to-use tool readily available wherever they are learning on a given day.
Gifted learners NEED to connect with one another, and they NEED the option to read on paper!
Paper copies of these texts will allow students to avoid extra screen time and practice healthy reading habits both at school and home. One set of titles will be used for small book circles tied to the concepts of dystopia and change, and both Scythe and Maus will be taught as interdisciplinary literature/social science units for our brand-new Gifted Humanities curriculum.
This project will fund the physical needs of a completely new-to-me curriculum, teaching role, and learning mode for my students. Our district cannot provide full funding for small specialized programs such as mine, so by funding this project, you will help me ensure equitable access to gifted programming, as well as several high-interest, relevant, and dynamic new literature-based units.
