Preschoolers, whatever their learning ability is, explore their world through their senses. Touch being a big one. Sensory materials can be used in the classroom all year for various projects and themes. They can help children connect to new vocabulary, be brave by touching or playing with something new, and help with self regulation by offering a calming escape.
Kinetic sand alone can become ice cream, the bottom of the sea for some ocean animals, a house, dough for a pizza. Water beads can be mixed with fake snow, used in sensory bottles. or help a student calm their anger by being squished between their fingers.
The materials I am requesting will be used daily in my classroom to make the lessons and play times more involved and engaging.
