My hope is to start my therapy sessions with a fun and interesting background (with the help of a green screen and fun props). Once students are engaged I can continue with the student's speech/language therapy goal.
I am on a path to include literature that represents all of my students in Minneapolis. A typical therapy session to help my students with Communication Disorders would include literature that represents my students. This is not always easy to find in your school library (or my own home). The resources provided in this project would make it possible for my students to have a story online that is not available to the students at home or at school. The ultimate goal of the session is to create confidence related to literacy comprehension skills. Students may be working on story retell skills, sequencing, answering literal and inferential comprehension questions, vocabulary words, making predictions, and or/relating information to real-life experience. The diverse literature I have requested will help my students feel welcome, confident, and seen in his/her education.
All of the books I receive will be transitioned into an online format so I can introduce the text now with a story reading online and used in the speech therapy room post-COVID-19.
