My students will be creating artwork digitally this year for the first time. A color printer in the art room would allow them to take their creations home immediately when this occurs.
When students take their digital artwork home to their parents, they get to share their beautiful artwork and explain the technical steps they took to make it, supporting both their artistic and technical education.
Without the color printer available on site, the students get to go through the magic of creating the digital artwork, but the experience isn't reinforced with shared reflection with their parents. The color printer will also be used to print student artwork for bulletin boards around the school and for the county-wide art show in the spring.
A future goal is to establish an after-school digital art club where students would get more complicated digital art projects and we would look for an audience beyond the home, both virtually and in the real world where print-outs would be necessary.
