In order to differentiate learning and meet all my students' abilities, I need diverse books for my classroom library. Many of my students are limited to reading materials because they do not have access at home. Today's curriculum requires students to be able to access literature on a daily basis. By providing a library full of culturally diverse books that engage students, I will have provided the the tools necessary to build their literacy skills.
These books will allow my students to have quick and easy access to Language Arts and Social Studies curriculum. They will become engaged in stories that mirror their lives to capture their attention and draw them in to wanting to read more. Last year I incorporated the read aloud and found my students excited to come to class knowing exactly what page we left off on. My dream is to have class sets of significant historical fiction books for students to follow along.
