My school is an amazing, diverse group of elementary students in an urban South Carolina community! I am very fortunate to have a dual-role at my school. As a literacy coach, I work with teachers in grades K-5 and their students, helping by modeling and implementing literacy practices in the classroom. I am also a Reading Interventionist, working with struggling readers in small groups to help each of them reach their own potential. As a school, our primary focus is on providing a Balanced Literacy program which requires teachers to analyze student-centered data to individualize reading instruction, provide language and word study strategies, and to implement a writing workshop model. In order for our students to be successful, we need a variety of tools to motivate students to read, to learn how to work with words, and in turn, use all of that knowledge to write!
