This proposal seeks STEM materials that engage our K-5 student鈥檚 imagination and creative thinking. Our lab will allow students to explore with tools and systems that can translate into high interest in future STEM careers. The products being conducted will be related to design, engineering, electronics, circuitry, computing, and robotics. Engineering design will be our initial foundational layer of the launch. This type of lab will begin the path for our students to become College and Career ready for our community. These hands-on experiences will allow for the expansion of learning from computer-based and direct instruction to student鈥檚 own kinesthetic involvement.
This STEM lab will allow us to increase student involvement as well as implement a curriculum that is centered on a student-created investigation, which in turn will create more lasting and relevant learning experiences for our students. Materials needed for the lab include the LEGO and K鈥橬EX building sets, Makey-Makey electronic circuit kits, as well as individual creative components for our Makerspace. Preparing the students to become college and career ready is our parish鈥檚 main focus. By addressing Louisiana State Standards along with hands-on activities that require students to engage and adapt as they learn, students are challenged to inquire and ask questions of themselves and their peers, define solutions to problems they see around them鈥 and explore how their ideas can change their world.
These materials will allow for this diverse group of learners to excel with confidence and wisdom on their path to the future. Increasing literacy skills, social skills, and scientific argumentation in the content areas of science, math, and engineering is our focus. Students will learn and apply the Engineering Design Process and say 鈥淲ow!鈥
With donors like you, our students can thoroughly participate in and enjoy 鈥淧urposeful Design鈥! Thank you for your kind consideration.
