I currently teach Reading to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade special needs students at a separate public day school. Typically, students attending our school are functioning well below academic norms, along with having impaired functional and self-help deficits. Currently, I serve forty-six students. All of these students receive free lunch.
Our school operates without the benefit of Title I funding, and we rely heavily on self-created income opportunities along with the monies received from the Federal Government. While we are able to create financial opportunities through business relationships and an in-house production line, we are still lacking in enough funding to provide adequate curriculum for our students. This grant would help provide students with fundamental learning opportunities and the ability to prosper academically.
