My first graders are lively and eager to learn. They live in a rural community of about 2500 people. Fifty-two percent of the students in my school qualify for free and reduced meal prices which means many of my students are living in poverty. While some of my students live in a two-parent home, many of my students live in a single parent home or with grandparents. The student population is mostly Caucasian and Native American. We also have Hispanic and Chinese students. Many of the students attend after school programs to do homework and enrichment activities. This ensures students won't be home alone after school. My students love sports, music, art, and technology. They love to watch movies and play video games.
