I am currently teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) to Kindergarteners and First Graders in a Title I school. While my students are learning English, most have started the school year with no or very little understanding of the English language. Very few of my students have had experience with written text; therefore, creating and maintaining a print-rich environment is crucial to their academic growth. Adding new and exciting activities and lessons are also vital to their cognitive development. Title I funds cannot be used for the ESL classroom; therefore, I must be creative in obtaining materials for my students. Although I am required to teach the curriculum, my access to the materials is extremely limited compared to the regular education classrooms.
