As a teacher, you can not always pick you students or sometimes even your classroom or subject you will teach. But you are able to choose how you arrange your classroom. Allowing student to freely sit is my way of enhancing the instructional environment. For students, traditional seating hinders their ability to use the classroom as a learning resource or in a way that they need to accomplish the learning goals, I have already set for them as modern learners. Working on the floor allows students to be able to be free and open to learning new concepts in their math class. Flexible seating encourages students to sit where they wish based on their needs, some like to stand and do work, some like to sit on the floor, and some students like it traditional and sit in desk. Every student learns differently. So I would like to allow my students the option of sitting comfortable on the floor with a lap desk or cushion. When students are not trying to hold themselves still in their chairs, they are open to learn new concepts.
