My first grade students are a bundle of joy to inspire and to teach. In our class,ninety-nine percent of my students are minorities. We are a Title 1 school. 100% percent of my students receive free lunch. We are surrounded by three correctional facilities and one federal prison.
My students are ecstatic to hear stories on a CD player. In our classroom, we sing songs, read and listen to stories on CDs. This helps stimulate their imagination, build comprehension, and help them retain information while boosting their literacy skills.
Some of my students are reluctant readers because they are struggling with identifying basic and complex words. I have students who are learning English and some students who attend speech. For a lot of my students, coming to school is the only place where they are able to hear and practice reading stories. My students love to reread familiar books.
