My students and I are very fortunate to have whiteboard tables in our math classroom. However, in order to utilize these, we must continually have working dry erase markers. With 80+ students using these markers 5 days a week, the markers dry out fast. Being able to ask my students to quickly jot down their work, or poll their classmates, or draw a visual to walk themselves through a problem, makes our class exponentially more engaging and fun. Students love working with the whiteboard tables and the amount of teachable moments seen amongst peers are priceless.
Your generous donation to this project will support our students on multiple levels, from making learning fun to exhibiting for all what they can achieve. While our whiteboard tables help students in the moment, their hard work also deserves to be posted for all to see, and providing the students with chart paper will allow them to do that. I have been so lucky as teacher to receive many donations of markers already, but my students need chart paper in order to utilize them and display their exemplary work and projects.
Lastly, with only 50 minutes in our middle school blocks, it is imperative that the students feel a sense of urgency when completing each portion of their work. In an environment where I emphasize to my students that our work (learning) is never done and time is precious, having a timer on the board to effectively monitor their own use of time will hopefully encourage students to stay focused and hungry for more.
