My students are from Camden, NJ which is one of the poorest districts in the US. They are in a 9th -12th grade Multiple Disabilities self contained classroom. The poverty and limited access to resources negatively impacts these kids' academic performance as well as effects behavioral outcomes in school and other social settings. As a result of this, I wholeheartedly believe that it is the schools and society's responsibility to provide its children with the best opportunities possible to flourish in their educational endeavors. Ben Franklin once said, "An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest." As an educator, I strive make an investment in the education and lives of the children I teach because I know that my efforts will eventually pay dividends as these industrious students slowly evolve into the men and women they will someday become.
