My students are wonderful sponges for learning. In Kindergarten, the entire approach of school, reading, asking questions and working in groups is a new undertaking. However, my school is located in an inner-city district with an extremely high ratio of students living in HUD housing, frequently moving from school to school, and many in homes with one or more parent missing from the scenario. My school is in the process of change with a new administration and new teachers who are eager to create literacy awareness within the homes and at school. I want to be able to support their need for literacy richness, but my classroom library is dwindling because of their need for books to support home learning.
