My students come from limited English speaking, low-income households where access to books and the English language is very limited or non-existent. Given their interrupted schooling, several students are reading on a pre-K level and yet are placed in 4th and 5th grade.
These HD Fire tablets will give my students access to resources to practice their English language development skills beyond the school day as well as build their literacy level. I plan to add non-web-dependent reading/writing apps and English as a Second Language (ESL) games for students to carry home with them. This will give them additional practice in the basic skills they need to be successful in school and beyond.
