"If a child can't learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn." ― Ignacio Estrada. One way I can teach the way my students learn is by giving them options to work where they learn best. Our 21st Century learners do not all learn best by spending their entire day in one seat at a table. Wobble chairs are an example of flexible seating I would like to introduce to my kindergarten students. Students need seating options that allow them to choose the best type of seat to help them learn best. This allows students to be more responsible for their own learning. The wobble chairs will be located at our computer stations in place of typical chairs.
This is an exciting time for my students because they will have a variety of seating to choose from. We will have yoga mats, pillows, bean bags and crate seats the students can choose from to maximize their leaning success. At the beginning of the year, students will have the opportunity to try all the different seating and then make the best choice for themselves. I believe flexible seating will allow my students to move throughout the day, therefore reducing the amount of disruptive behavior that disturbs everyone's learning.
