My students come from countries all over the world. Most speak 2, if not more, languages. Somalia, Nigeria, Japan, and Ireland are only a few of the countries represented. Each of them brings with them rich experience that enhances our classroom climate. Since English is not the first language for most of my students, I work hard to surround them with language and help them feel welcome. Since we are an inner city school with about 70% of students eligible for free and reduced lunch, classroom donations are limited.
