When it is raining outside I want my students to still have a good time inside. The only downside about this is there are 15 students and one of me. I would like to be less of the runner of the show and let the students still have a little free time in different areas. I would like them to be active like they would be in any sport. Instead of sports first we are learning manners and sharing. To do that they can play with the pretend food with their friends.
When it is dark and gloomy the cd's will give us an uplifted spirit. Instead of going outside students can dance around the classroom using the fun song cds. Or maybe grab a book and sit on a bean bag chair if dancing is not their style. For the science minded students I have asked for the building sets. These will keep students occupied imagining they are building outside where ever they think they are. The student imagination is endless, I want to embrace that.
All and all an alternative recess is essential to keep the kids moving and occupied during days when it is too wet to go outside.
