Learning how to read music on the staff is very difficult. Especially for those in younger grades. By the time they start playing recorders in fourth grade they get very confused trying to learn how to read music and play at the same time. Boomwhackers would eliminate this problem and provide them a fun way to learn. Boomwhackers are colored tubes that are different lengths to represent every note in the C major scale. They are played by hitting them on the floor or your legs. Since boomwhackers are color coded it makes it easy for students to read the notes on screen by the color you make the note. This also reinforces rhythms because they will start reading those at the same time. By gradually removing the colors they can start to read the music on the staff before it is time to play recorders.
By donating to this cause, you will help my students read music at an advanced level much earlier than they would have before. Boomwhackers will provide my students with so many possibilities and allow them to play more popular songs that they can relate to. They are also great for providing opportunities for improvisation which cannot be learned as easily later in life. They will be able to show their individuality and creativity in a safe environment. Not to mention they are also tons of fun! What kid doesn't want to whack something on the floor? They will be learning advanced music reading without even realizing it!
