I am so blessed to share a classroom with 25 fun and energetic 3rd graders! This is my 5th year of teaching in Oklahoma. The first 4 years I taught Kindergarten, and then I made the switch this year to 3rd grade. It has been a great learning adventure for me and my students. By getting these materials, I hope to bring some of the early childhood learning principles I acquired in Kindergarten to my 3rd grade classroom.
The materials in this project will create a conducive environment for hands-on learning during literacy and math instruction. I believe that my most effective teaching comes from small group instruction where I can gauge my teaching based on the needs of each student or group of students. The Literacy VersaTiles Set and Lakeshore Learning Games will be a great resource for small group instruction. What makes VersaTiles so unique is that they are completely self-checking activities that allow students to monitor their own learning. They will be a very fun and challenging activity for my students and I am excited to see their success in reading skyrocket! I plan to use the math manipulatives as part of my whole class instruction to prepare my students for the small group activities.
I truly believe that these materials will make a huge difference in my classroom. By creating an environment conducive to hands-on learning, my students will become more engaged in their learning, particularly during literacy and math instruction. As their engagement increases, so will their success and that is always something that I will strive for as a teacher!
